There’s definitely no shortage of adult cartoons for any viewers looking for alternatives to Family Guy. By using and often subverting the animated family sitcom format popularized by The Simpsons, Family Guy’s reign began in 1999, and, like its predecessor, appears to have no end in sight. In recent years, however, long-time archetypes of adult animation like Family Guy and The Simpsons have fluctuated in both popularity and quality. This has allowed newcomers like Rick and Morty, Big Mouth, Bob’s Burgers, and Invincible (to name just a few) to contend for the after-dark TV throne.
