2022 ScreenCraft Cinematic Short Story Competition Winners

Congrats to the Winners of the 2022 ScreenCraft Cinematic Short Story Competition!

Just the Thing for a Day Like This by Cyn Nooney was selected from almost 800 submissions as our Grand Prize Winner, and Claim by Fiona Ennis was this year’s Runner-Up.

In Just the Thing for a Day Like This the newlywed young mother of a vulnerable premature newborn finds herself haunted by her husband’s first wife, resented by their teenage son, and an outsider in their family home.

Claim tells the story of Niamh, who receives a phone call from the bishop’s secretary asking her to arrange liability insurance to protect Irish priests in the diocese from sexual abuse claims, forcing her to face a decision and her past.

In addition to members of the ScreenCraft team we’d like to thank our industry judges Mikki Daughtry & Tobias Iaconis (Authors and Screenwriting Team), Dara Hyde (Senior Agent at Hill Nadell Literary Agency), and Emily Stokes (Editor, The Paris Review).

Congratulations to these winning writers and all of our finalists, and thank you to everyone who submitted projects; we read a number of remarkable submissions.
