Finally, when do you want to start?

Probably next Monday?

Or next month?

Or the first of the new year in 2023…!

How many days have passed, and you still haven’t started writing?!

Although you know that writing continuously and practicing a lot is considered a necessary task for someone who wants to work as a freelancer or content writer, every day, you find an excuse to procrastinate and not write content or blog posts, etc.

Many of us are very interested in writing and creating content, and we always see ourselves as famous and rich writers in our dreams and imaginations. But when it’s time to write and implement this dream, it’s as if we get writing paralysis, and our brains and hands freeze, and we can’t write even one word.

And the reason why most of us can’t be a writer and feel that we will never become a writer and have to say goodbye to the interesting and exciting work of creating content forever is that we don’t have the necessary motivation to create content. Motivation is the main driving force of the engine of writing and content creation, and like fuel and gasoline, if it is not there, there can be no movement. It means that you do not need to have an extraordinary talent in writing or always have creative and strange ideas in your mind; it is enough that you have the necessary motivation to write or create this motivation and then see how every day without even having an idea and a great topic, immediately after you wake up, you sit at your desk and start putting words together and writing.

Are you empty of motivation right now?

Like you, I often experienced this lack of motivation during content writing. But I didn’t give up; instead, I read more and more books to overcome this problem, and I surfed the internet a lot to find high-quality articles about this. And wherever I find a good point, I write it quickly in my Notion. When I get into the lack of motivation phase and feel that I can’t write anything anymore, I use those techniques or tricks and go back to writing.

Of course, not all of these instructions are supposed to work for everyone. Depending on the type of moral characteristics and his/her lifestyle, people should be able to get ideas from these techniques and use them to increase motivation in content production.
Let’s dive into some of these techniques:

5 Ways to Overcome Procrastination In Writing

1-The “Seinfeld Strategy” in writing content

This technique is inspired by the procrastination technique from Seinfeld, who is one of the most successful comedians of all time. You need one blank A4 paper, a pencil, and a red pen to implement this technique.
Start!

Divide the blank paper into 30 days squares and record the day’s date on top of every square. That’s it! Your special anti-procrastination calendar is made.

How can this calendar motivate you to write content?

The fact is that it is not the calendar that does something for you. You do the task every day, put a cross mark on your calendar, and motivate yourself to write more.

The best thing is to set a minimum number of words for each day. For example, for me, this minimum amount is about 3000 to 4000 words. You can consider much more than this amount or much less than this amount as the minimum daily content for yourself, and from now on, every day that you stick to this appointment with yourself and write this minimum content, put a big red cross mark in the house related to that day. And the only thing you should do is “don’t break the chain.”

In this way, you can analyze yourself weekly and monthly to see how much you have been able to stick to your promise. And finally, if the cross marks on your calendar exceed 25 per month, promise to buy yourself a good gift and implement your happiness project in the best possible way so that you can enjoy the following days and months. In this way, you get more motivation to write. But only when you can get a tangible reward for yourself and encourage yourself that the cross marks on your calendar are connected like a chain and not six days apart between each cross or…

2-Start writing by watching movies or serials

Getting motivated and starting to write by watching and analyzing movies or series can be one of the most attractive ways to overcome a lack of motivation.

It was just some months ago that one night when I was exhausted from my daily work and almost couldn’t do anything, I decided to watch an episode of the Breaking Bad series. While watching the first scenes from episode four of this series, I suddenly came up with an exciting idea for the blog’s content. And the day after that, I converted this idea into a blog post, and the interesting thing is that it became trendy.

The idea of the article was: How does the best TV series (Breaking Bad) teach you how to start an empire through entrepreneurship? Walter White, the hero of this series, was a chemistry teacher in a low-ranking high school in a small town. The day he found out he had lung cancer and would die before his second child was born and his son went to college, his life changed entirely and led to strange things that were hard for him to believe in the past. I learned an interesting lesson from this story and the character of Walter White that night. I used this idea to write an article about ideas for success and entrepreneurship, and personal development.

So, if you are a fan of watching series or TV shows, you can reach a lot of ideas for writing and content creation that can increase your motivation to start writing as soon as possible. So instead of sitting at your desk and staring at the blank page until an idea comes on to you, you can sit in front of the TV, watch your favorite series, and grab the idea.

3-Start from outdated content

Whenever you don’t have any idea or motivation for starting, go back to your previous and outdated content and get ideas from them.
We are only sometimes supposed to have original, first-handed, creative ideas to produce viral content. Sometimes going back to the past ideas we have written about can help us write new high-quality content with the same idea. Besides, this way allows us to start writing immediately and conveniently.

In addition, the best thing is to look at your previous content with positive comments when you don’t have the fuel and motivation to write. After reviewing this kind of comment, you feel there is a heavy responsibility on your shoulders that you must write daily in any situation.

Certainly, in whatever position and level we are, compliments from others make us feel good and motivate us to continue.

4- Start writing without fear of others’ judgment

People care more about themselves headaches than the death of you and me, so don’t be hard! “Dale Carnegie

Most of us fear the negative judgment of others about our articles, and we are constantly afraid that a wrong word will come out of our mouths and its bad effect will be with us forever. This attitude causes the writer’s paralysis. But if we believe in the words of “Dale Carnegie “that people care more about their headaches than our death, we have less stress when writing.

Whenever this kind of fear and lack of motivation comes to you, just consider that each of us is a member of several billion people on the planet. Our planet is one in billion planets in the Milky Way galaxy, and our galaxy is one of the infinite galaxies in the universe. So assured that your work is important to no one except yourself. So start writing because you have nothing to lose.

5-Start writing with small steps

Choose small paths for content writing, not big and unattainable goals.
We all have big goals and dreams in our minds. For example, we would like to write a best-selling book of several thousand words as soon as possible and become a billionaire author. Or we would like to launch a site within a few months and reach a million audience and a #1 rank by posting great content and… Yes, these are the big goals of all content producers and writers.

But consider that you wake up in the morning and when you want to start, what you see in front of you is a huge giant of several thousand words called a book. Certainly, you disappoint and give up because you feel you will never be able to finish this book and publish it.

But if you divide this big goal into small daily steps that will become a daily routine after a while, you can be sure that you will reach that big goal in the shortest possible time. For example, regarding the production of the book’s content, make a deal with yourself that you should write 500 or 1000 words every morning when you wake up, at night when you go to bed, or even in the subway. Still, you must do this without any interruption, and you must write every day. Be sure, in the worst situation. It is not too difficult for you to write 500-word content.

In this way, writing becomes your daily habit, not a complicated task. Just like every day when you do a series of routine things, for example, when you wake up in the morning, wash your face and eat breakfast, etc., writing becomes simple and easy like these things.

It’s your turn.

Do you have ever have a similar experience? What have you done?
