New images for the upcoming Disney+ series, The Book of Boba Fett, gives a sneak peek of the legendary bounty hunter’s team-up with the mercenary Fennec Shand. Part of the Star Wars franchise and serving as a spin-off from the streaming service’s hit series, The Mandalorian, Disney’s The Book of Boba Fett stars Temuera Morrison as Boba Fett and Ming-Na Wen as Fennec Shand. Both actors began their portrayal of the characters during The Mandalorian and would go on to reprise their roles in other Star Wars-related content.
Several attempts have been made over the years to develop a standalone Star Wars canon film centered on Boba Fett. Disney CEO Bob Iger had previously announced a spin-off Boba Fett film back in February 2013. The movie was said to take place between 1977’s A New Hope and 1980’s The Empire Strikes Back and would focus on Fett and other bounty hunters from the second film in the Star Wars franchise. The project would never see the light of day; however, talks of creating a standalone movie centered on Boba Fett continued. Lucasfilm considered a Boba Fett-themed film back in August of 2017, but the project was scrapped following the financial failure of Solo: A Star Wars Story. Yet, with the success of The Mandalorian, it seems Disney has finally found a medium to release more Boba Fett content.
Empire reveals new images from The Book of Boba Fett that offers a sneak peek of the team-up between the legendary bounty hunter and Fennec Shand. One image shows Fennec holding a pulse rifle at the ready and looking off in the distance. Another image shows the mercenary leaning over Boba Fett’s shoulder with the wording “Most Wanted” displayed in the bottom left-hand corner. A third image shows Fennec out of focus in the background as she watches the bounty hunter converse with another woman. View the images of The Book of Boba Fett team-up with Fennec Shand below:
While not much is known about the story of The Book of Boba Fett, the show’s synopsis alludes to Boba Fett and Fennec Shand attempting to make a name for themselves in the galaxy’s underworld. Their attempts to take over territory belonging to Jabba the Hutt are guaranteed to lead them to epic fights and much resistance. Fennec was actually introduced earlier in The Mandalorian than Boba Fett, appearing in “Chapter 5: The Gunslinger.” Later, in “Chapter 14: The Tragedy,” it is revealed that Boba Fett saved Fennec from another bounty hunter, Toro Calican. With parts of her body replaced by cybernetics, Fennec serves as Fett’s new partner.
Although it is not clear how deep the series will dive into the relationship between Fennec Shand and Boba Fett, their chemistry in The Mandalorian was well received. Wen’s character is even considered a fan favorite from the show. Therefore, having an entire series dedicated to both Boba Fett and Fennec Shand should be a massive hit. Fans can look forward to seeing the pair team up once The Book of Boba Fett releases on December 29, 2021.
