Chris Chibnall has left a lasting legacy on Doctor Who that goes far beyond onscreen elements like the controversial Timeless Child storyline. The revelations around the Doctor’s non-Time Lord origins dominated much of the discussion around the era of the Thirteenth Doctor (Jodie Whittaker), and that noise distracted from the hugely positive strides Chris Chibnall’s era made as a whole. Chris Chibnall’s casting of the first female Doctor was a strong statement of intent from the showrunner, who made increasing diversity in front and behind the camera a priority on Doctor Who.
