Destiny 2: How To Get The DFA Hand Cannon (& God Roll)

The D.F.A. Hand Cannon is back in Destiny 2 with a complete perk overhaul that has made the weapon better than ever before. D.F.A. is a Kinetic Hand Cannon that had a 140 rounds per minute fire rate, making it the same type of weapon as Fatebringer. The large overhaul kept all of the perks that D.F.A. had originally, but the rework had included more than triple amount available options.

There have been quite a few rereleased weapons in Season of the Haunted, and although some of them have patterns that can be unlocked, the D.F.A. Hand Cannon cannot be crafted. Those who are looking for a craftable Kinetic Hand Cannon in Destiny 2 should get Austringer’s weapon pattern instead, though these two weapons have different perk pools as well. Despite not being a craftable weapon, D.F.A. is still worth getting because its god roll is a great option to have for PvE activities. Although it does have PvP options as well, it may not have the same utility in those types of activities.

D.F.A. is a reward for completing Nightfalls on certain weeks, replacing the Palindrome reward that was available up until Season of the Haunted started. This means that once Grandmaster Nightfalls begin an Adept D.F.A. will also become available as a reward. Adept weapons are typically better than their standard counterparts because they can take advantage of Adept Mods. Some Adept Mods may automatically come with the weapon, but more can be earned by visiting the Lighthouse after going Flawless in Trials of Osiris. Adept Mods enhance the god roll for any weapon in Destiny 2 by adding, for example, additional range, impact, boss damage, and more trait that no other weapon can use.

Many of the barrel perks that are available for D.F.A. will work fine for the weapon, but the top options are Hammer-Forged Rifling and Smallbore because they increase the Hand Cannon’s damage range. Smallbore does improve the range slightly less, but it also improves the weapon’s stability. Additionally, Extended Barrel is great specifically for PvP to help bring the Hand Cannon up to Fatebringer’s capabilities. Most of the magazine perks for D.F.A. are great for PvE activities as well, but the top options in the second column are still Accurized Rounds and Tactical Mag. Combined with the new third and fourth column perks, the D.F.A. is a great option for Vanguard, Crucible, and Gambit activities in Destiny 2, as well as high-tier endgame content:

  • 1. Outlaw/Rampage – This may be the god roll for D.F.A., at the very least it’s a well-rounded roll.
  • 2. Triple Tap/Timed Payload – This roll is optimized for PvE activities, though these perks may not perform too well together in PvP.
  • 3. Fragile Focus/Opening Shot – This roll provides the weapon with significantly increased range for PvP activities.
  • 4. Perpetual Motion/Timed Payload – For Guardians that prefer to remain mobile and deal as much damage as possible, Perpetual Motion and Timed Payload is the perfect option.
