Dwayne Johnson Hypes Pierce Brosnan’s Doctor Fate In Black Adam

Dwayne Johnson says Pierce Brosnan’s Doctor Fate in Black Adam will please fans. Helmed by Jungle Cruise‘s Jaume Collet-Serra, Black Adam marks the DCEU debut of former WWE superstar Johnson, a.k.a. the Rock, as the titular ancient Egyptian anti-hero. Johnson has been attached to play the character since 2014, although at that time he was supposed to appear as a villain in David F. Sandberg’s Shazam! movie. The megastar ultimately ended up getting a film of his own, and although it took some time to get off the ground, it is now finally ready to hit theaters on October 21, 2022.

Apart from Johnson’s first turn as a superhero, there are several other reasons the Black Adam movie is so hotly anticipated. For one, it marks the franchise debut of the Justice Society of America (JSA), an alliance of superpowered underdogs who believe in fighting for truth and virtue. Aldis Hodge will lead the JSA in Black Adam as Hawkman, whereas To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before star Noah Centineo and Quintessa Swindell will play two of the JSA’s junior members, Atom Smasher and Cyclone, respectively. Besides Hodge, Centineo, and Swindell, former James Bond actor Brosnan stars as senior JSA member Kent Nelson/ Doctor Fate.

As per a tweet by @blackadamnews, which was then shared by Johnson himself, the Black Adam star believes audiences will be very happy with Brosnan’s portrayal of Doctor Fate. The wrestler-turned-actor highlights that Brosnan is an extremely talented individual, or in his words a “force,” who has substantially delivered in the Black Adam movie. From the get-go, Black Adam‘s Brosnan and Johnson have been bonding well on set. The latter, in fact, was the first one to welcome the 007 star on board, and he made the casting announcement himself, too. Brosnan has similarly expressed great admiration for Johnson. In an interview last autumn, he pointed out that he greatly respects “what he’s [Johnson] created for himself in life and how he conducts himself with the world at large.”

The chemistry and camaraderie between Johnson and Brosnan, as well as the mutual respect among all Black Adam cast members, really bodes well for the film. At the moment, it’s unclear what the dynamics will look like between Johnson’s anti-hero and the JSA, but given the appreciation the stars have for each others’ work, it seems like a given that the acting will be top-notch. More details will become clear this Wednesday, once the first full-length trailer for Black Adam finally comes out.
