Kids in the Hall Reboot Trailer Reveals First Look At Stars’ Returns

The first trailer for the Kids in the Hall reboot series has arrived, providing a look at the cult sketch comedy’s returning stars. It’s been 27 years since the cast of The Kids in the Hall were last seen together. Comedians Dave Foley, Mark McKinney, Scott Thompson, Bruce McCulloch, and Kevin McDonald first began bringing their irreverent brand of sketch comedy to viewers in 1988, gradually building a devoted fanbase that saw the series land Emmy nominations before the show came to an end in 1995.

Throughout its initial run, The Kids in the Hall was produced by SNL creator Lorne Michaels, whose support undoubtedly helped give the series more widespread attention. The cast was an incredibly unique one, adept at delivering comedic sketches that were very much ahead of their time. Because the series was made up of a male cast, its members would often play female characters as well, often resulting in some downright hilarious moments. Additionally, The Kids in the Hall wasn’t afraid to take its comedy to surreal places, creating genuinely bizarre recurring characters such as the Chicken Lady and Mr. Tyzik – aka the crushing your head guy.

Though the series did get popular enough to justify a feature film spinoff in 1996 called Brain Candy, as well as the 2010 miniseries Death Comes to Town, the complete cast hasn’t worked in televised sketch comedy as The Kids in the Hall since 1995. That’s now set to change, as Amazon Prime will be bringing viewers a new eight-episode revival of The Kids in the Hall starting May 13. The first trailer for the series has arrived, via the official Prime Video Canada Twitter account, and it already looks as though it’s a dream come true for Kids in the Hall fans:

In addition to the return of the original cast and many favorite recurring characters, the series will also include guest appearances from Paul Bellini, Pete Davidson, Catherine O’Hara, Kenan Thompson, Brandon Ash-Mohammed, Will Forte, Catherine Reitman, Samantha Bee, Fred Armisen, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, Jay Baruchel, Eddie Izzard, Tracee Ellis Ross, Mark Hamill and Colin Mochrie. It’s shaping up to be a tremendous return for the comedy troupe.

With a history of being both fearless and hilarious, the series will likely not only find a dedicated audience in its original fanbase, but it also stands to create new fans as well. The roster of guest stars is phenomenal, and with the exposure that a streaming service such as Amazon can provide, the second coming of The Kids in the Hall might finally provide it with the credit it’s long deserved. Time will tell when it debuts May 13.
