Michelle Yeoh Shares Emotional Reaction To Everything Everywhere Script

Michelle Yeoh, the star of the multidimensional science-fiction comedy Everything Everywhere All at Once, has shared her reaction to reading the script for the first time in an emotional interview. Written and directed by Dan Kwan and Daniel Scheinert (aka The Daniels), the movie follows laundromat owner Evelyn Wang (Yeoh) who develops the power to exist across different parallel dimensions, as well as control objects within them, in order to stop an alternate version of her daughter (Stephanie Hsu) from potentially destroying it all. Boasting an impressive cast that also includes Ke Huy Quan, James Hong, Jamie Lee Curtis and Tallie Medel, Everything Everywhere All at Once has received widespread praise for its ingenuity, creativity and heartfelt core.

Following her Hollywood debut in the James Bond movie Tomorrow Never Dies, Yeoh has enjoyed a highly prolific career. The actor has made her name in particular as an action-star, having appeared in other blockbuster movies such as Crouching Tiger, Hidden DragonThe Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Her early career acting in numerous martial-arts and Hong Kong action movies has even led to Yeoh often performing her own stunts and fight scenes. However, Yeoh has also showcased her versatility as an actor by starring in less action-oriented hit movies such as the period-drama Memoirs of a Geisha, and the romantic comedies Last Christmas and Crazy Rich Asians.

While the diversity of Yeoh’s film work has allowed her to play a range of characters and styles, from the prophetic Soothsayer in Kung Fu Panda 2 to the domineering Eleanor in Crazy Rich Asians, it’s evident that the actor felt she hadn’t had the chance to give a more holistic performance showcasing all of her skills before Everything Everywhere All at Once. Yeoh’s claim that the unique opportunity the movie presented for her was “something that [she had] been waiting for for a long time” illustrates just how much the veteran star has desired the chance to be able to demonstrate the full breadth of her talent. Based on her moving response to reading the film’s script, it’s clear that working on the movie was an experience that Yeoh treasures.

Given that Yeoh has received universal acclaim for her performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once, it may be that many fans of the star will agree that she should have been granted the opportunity to display her talents as an actor in such a comprehensive manner sooner. The success that both Yeoh and the movie are currently enjoying might well lead to more chances for Yeoh to illustrate her abilities in other movies, such as her role in the upcoming Avatar sequels. Either way, this interview decidedly shows that Everything Everywhere All at Once has become one of the most significant highlights of Yeoh’s already illustrious career.
