MonsterVerse Godzilla TV Show’s Setting Revealed In New Set Photos

Set pictures have surfaced for the Godzilla series, establishing its setting. Production on Apple TV+’s yet-to-be-titled Godzilla/MonsterVerse spinoff series has recently begun in Vancouver, Canada. While little is known about the show itself, WandaVision‘s Matt Shakman will be directing its first two episodes and will center around a family uncovering the Titans’ secrets and its link to an organization named Monarch, which has played a role throughout the MonsterVerse movies. Kiersey Clemons, Anna Sawai, Joe Tippett, Elisa Lasowski, and Ren Watabe are currently part of the cast.

Godzilla and several other Titans are also expected to appear in the series, though it’s still unclear what role they will play or if it is set after the sequel to Godzilla vs. Kong, which will release on March 15, 2024. However, it is expected that Monarch will be playing a bigger role in the show than in previous films. The organization’s origins (and goals) were briefly explored in Kong: Skull Island and, more recently, in Godzilla: King of the Monsters. The Godzilla series will likely explore Monarch in depth, where more information on the monsters’ ties to the shadowy organization will be revealed.

Per Twitter user Janice Rafael, the show is confirmed to have scenes set in a military base. The series will also be set in Oakland, California, as an Oakland Fire Department car was spotted on the military base set. Rafael also captured a rehearsal involving members of the military standing in a circle and a boom mic operator following a circled actress on the set. However, the photo isn’t clear enough to make out who the actor and character is. Rafael’s set photos can be seen below:

These pictures likely signal a military intervention in some capacity. It’s unclear what the military is hunting or briefing about, but it most certainly involves Godzilla or one of the Titans expected to appear in the series. Most of its details are being kept under wraps, but if the army is involved, this surely means that a Titan is nearby. Monarch may also be financing the army’s operations to hunt down monsters, as it has been established in past installments, so the military may be taking orders from Monarch, especially if they accompany the show’s protagonists.

It’s no surprise that the military will be heavily involved in the events of the Godzilla TV series since they have always been throughout the franchise. Godzilla‘s main protagonist, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, was an Explosive Ordnance Disposal officer for the U.S. Navy. Kong: Skull Island was set during the Vietnam War, and Monarch’s Bill Randa (John Goodman) recruits Lieutenant Colonel Preston Packard (Samuel L. Jackson) and his men to explore the titular Skull Island and drop explosives. And since the show seems to be more focused on Monarch than the actual monsters, their role will likely be expanded throughout the series, as it may even expand upon Monarch’s ties to the military.
