Maddie and Theo may share a best friend, but it doesn’t mean they have to like each other! In fact, they both really dislike each other, so when they have a drunk hook-up, they expect it to be a one-time thing. Until they’re asked to be in their best friend’s wedding and forced proximity makes them realize that they can’t keep their hands off each other. And maybe they don’t dislike each other so much after all? (Who are we kidding – this is a romance! Of course they don’t.)

I had some pretty strong pros and cons for this one, so I’m going to copy Kazen at Always Doing and break down my romance review into a list of each.

Things I loved included:

  • Some overlap with the timeline of the first two books in the series! It felt like I was in on some fun hidden info to get see stories I recognized from a new perspective
  • Steamy banter and lots of sexual tension
  • Two people slowly becoming the other person’s safe space and falling in love without even realizing it
  • Convincing relationship progression as we got to see our protagonists get to know each other better
  • The two protagonists finally being forced to talk to each other (see below)

Things I hated included:

  • Protagonists who for some weird, but unclear reason decided they can’t be together. There has to be an obstacle to a relationship to be overcome, but this just wasn’t believable
  • Protagonists who are truly terrible at just talking to each other. I find this unbelievable, frustrating, and really immature
  • The beginning of the book felt like all sex scenes and the end had hardly any
  • At least the first two sex scenes felt rushed and lacked chemistry, although perhaps the point was supposed to be that this improved?

I enjoyed this quite a bit despite its flaws though. There were a few fun sex scenes and a great emotional journey with a moving happily ever after. It does seem like characters who struggle to talk to each other may be a staple of the romances in this series, but I love the characters and their convincing relationships enough that I’ll definitely give it another try.
