Saying Goodbye to One of Our Editors

A letter from Jessica:

Hello writers,

On October 22, 2014, I wrote the first draft of a Medium article announcing the concept that would later become The Writing Cooperative. I still have that gem in my drafts. I keep it as a reminder the smallest seeds can grow into high-reaching trees. Back then, there was no plan to become Medium’s largest writing publication, just a small community of writers helping each other improve their crafts and drafts.

That handful of writers editing each others’ work grew in many ways and has evolved into something we never even imagined eight years ago. I want to thank everyone who helped build this community — especially Justin, Sand, and Stella. I’m proud that through the changes, we have kept to our original mission of helping each other write better.

This is now my final chapter (pun used shamelessly) as an editor for The Writing Cooperative and I leave the publication in Justin’s care.

I have come across too many great articles during my time here to have any kind of definitive ‘best of’ list but these came to mind while reflecting on the fantastic advice that has been published here (thanks to you).

For a list of writers I recommend, I would suggest the people behind our official series. A schedule with their names and series is available on the directory page.

As for me, I’ll still be reading and writing here on Medium. Let’s stay in touch. (https://medium.com/@jessjungton).

Too much has happened since that first draft for me to write a long goodbye letter. Like William Darcy, perhaps if I cared less, I would say more. So, for the last time, thank you for your submission(s).

I wish you all the best,

Jessica
