Skyrim Player Enlists Greybeards to Help Take Down Frost Troll

An Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim player discovered a clever way to easily defeat the game’s ferocious Frost Troll by recruiting members of the game’s Greybeards. The fifth installment in the fantasy RPG series, Skyrim is the most popular of the Elder Scrolls titles, and despite the game’s age, players are still finding new ways to explore and battle in Skyrim.

In Skyrim, players discover they are what’s known as a Dragonborn, someone who, after felling a dragon, can absorb its soul and with it their power. Dragonborn are one of the few who can use Dragon Shouts, magical words that grant various effects like summoning a dragon or creating a cyclone. Skyrim‘s Greybeards are an ancient order of monks located atop the highest mountain in the land, and are some of the only others to be able to utilize Dragon Shouts. All members remain completely silent, as their voices are incredibly powerful and can very easily affect the world around them. Skyrim players can even join The Greybeards, if they so choose. Though typically a peaceful group, when provoked Greybeards prove themselves to be immensely strong fighters. Located on such a high mountaintop, the surrounding area is a cold, icy environment home to terrifying beasts, like the infamous ginormous Frost Trolls.

Reddit user Nyxulc recruited some unexpected Skyrim partners during a fight with a Frost Troll, luring the Troll into the Greybeard’s sanctuary to request backup. Two members of the order quickly and firmly incapacitate the ginormous creature, repeatedly freezing it while beating it with melee attacks. The player themselves does not even need to assist them, as they make quick work of the Frost Troll – the player doesn’t even lose any health once the Greybeards begin handling the situation. Despite an intense fight, the two members never say a word during the altercation, only making various grunts throughout.

Considered to be one of Skyrim‘s scariest enemies for many players, the Frost Troll is a much stronger variation of a normal in-game Troll, having nearly double its health and a devastating attack. The image of two older men in their religious garb punching a monster to death with their bare hands is full of ironic humor, coming from some of the in-game characters most would least expect to join a fight.

This unique and funny moment is the latest in fan discoveries when it comes to the immensely detailed Skyrim universe. For many fans of the series, being able to lure the Frost Troll into the sanctuary was something that was not even known to be possible in Skyrim even though the game has been out for over a decade. Hilarious finds like this are a testament to why The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has managed to remain popular for so long, offering a seemingly endless amount of content for players to experience even hundreds of hours into the game.
