Stranger Things Season 4 Trailer May Confirm How Eleven Gets Powers Back

Netflix’s Stranger Things season 4 trailer might have just confirmed how and why Eleven gets her powers back. At the end of Stranger Things season 3, Eleven lost her powers after an epic confrontation with the Mind Flayer, which left her seriously wounded. However, in the recently released season 4 trailer, Eleven’s powers are teased in several quick flashes, alluding to how her powers might return in the upcoming season.

Beginning with her introduction in season 1, Eleven has always demonstrated incredible prowess when it comes to her telekinetic and psychokinetic powers. However, after she lost them at the end of season 3, it seemed like she might not ever regain those same abilities. But, in the Stranger Things season 4 trailer, there are several scenes that show Eleven (shaved head included) demonstrating her powers in a shocking display of violence. While these could be flashbacks, it’s also possible these scenes take place in the present, which one quick sequence in the trailer hints at.

About midway through the Stranger Things season 4 trailer, there’s a quick sequence in which Eleven is told that “without you, we can’t win this war,” followed by her being taken away in a truck and later experimented on. As Eleven’s powers originally manifested after a series of brutal experimentations performed on her as a young girl, it’s possible that she voluntarily agrees to undergo similar experimentation in order to once again harness her telekinetic gifts. With the stakes for the penultimate volume of Stranger Things getting bigger and bigger, this type of choice would make perfect sense for the character.

Eleven has always been a character that’s fiercely loyal to her friends, most of all Mike. As their relationship has flourished into something more than just friends, it would make sense that Eleven might undergo further experimentation in order to protect her loved ones from the threats looming over Hawkins. As alluded to in the trailer, without Eleven’s powers – which she explains are absent – the town of Hawkins might not be able to face what’s coming for them.

Additionally, by the end of the trailer, there’s an impending sense of doom as the season’s primary antagonist was revealed, further explaining why Eleven might need to tap back into her powers. This threat is just one in a series of interdimensional threats facing Hawkins, but seems to be incredibly intelligent and powerful, and might even be a nod to a classic Dungeons & Dragons “big bad” known as Vecna. If that’s the case, it would perfectly justify why Eleven needs to undergo painful experimentation in order to regain her powers.

Whether or not Eleven’s display of power in the Stranger Things season 4 trailer takes place in the past or present, there’s no doubt that her current lack of powers will be a huge talking point in season 4 as a whole. Much of the trailer’s screentime is dedicated to her abilities, and how badly the town of Hawkins needs Eleven to face the approaching threat. Even if she doesn’t truly regain her powers, it seems as though Stranger Things season 4 will see Eleven try to do so with all her might.
