The Boys’ Homelander Unleashes His Inner Monster in Bloody New Art

Warning! Spoilers for The Boys comic book and television series below

Homelander is pretty much in a league of his own when it comes to deadly Supe’s in The Boys universe, and in a bloody new piece of comic book cover art, the violent hero is seeing red. Artist Huy Dinh shared their take on the villainous hero, as Homelander is covered in blood, eyes glowing, with a horrifying smile on his face.

Evil Superman satires, parodies, and takes are a dime-a-dozen these days, but Homelander managed to stand out in The Boys’ comic because of his pure ruthlessness. While he pretends to be the world’s greatest hero to much adoration, he’s an abusive, deadly Supe with no redeeming qualities. Homelander is prone to lose control and kills when he doesn’t get what he wants, as he’s a manchild with the powers of a god. Homelander became even more terrifying in The Boys’ live-action adaptation. Antony Starr’s portrayal of the character is genuinely chilling, as the unpredictable Supe is one of the biggest menaces in pop culture.

On their Instagram account, artist Huy Dinh shared his exclusive variant cover for The Boys #7 for Spectral Comics, which features Homelander covered in blood. The image brilliantly uses negative space to illustrate both Homelander’s powers and the violent act he just committed, as his patriotic suit is splashed with blood. The Supe gives a terrifying smile as his eyes glow red, as the red on his cape, gloves, belt, and blood also fade into the background. The cover art does a brilliant job illustrating Homelander’s monstrous side that readers and viewers have seen in The Boys.

The bloody cover is a super-limited edition exclusive cover from Spectral Comics, as only 333 copies were made available for purchase. Hin Duh’s Homelander art was also featured in a metal variant, which only had 33 copies (which are all sold out) available to buy. The come can be purchased alongside Gabriele Dell’Otto’s Homelander variant through their website.

Huy Dinh’s Homelander art is a creative, bloody way to show off the vile Supe’s violent side. The negative space illustrates the duality of the Supe, as he pretends to be a great hero when in reality, he’s the world’s biggest monster. Readers and viewers of The Boys have seen Homelander lose control many times, embrace his dark side, and use his powers to kill in the most brutal ways imaginable. Still, the art is one of the best interpretations capturing just what a loose cannon Homelander is throughout The Boys series.
