Watch: Trevor Noah reveals he’s leaving ‘The Daily Show’

After seven years, Daily Show host Trevor Noah will soon be Daily Show host no more.

Announcing his departure during Thursday’s episode, Noah thanked his team and reflected positively on his experience hosting the show, recalling covering the Trump presidency, the pandemic, and “more pandemic.”

“I’ve loved hosting this show,” said Noah. “It’s been one of my greatest challenges, it’s been one of my greatest joys. I’ve loved trying to figure out how to make people laugh even when the stories are particularly shitty on the worst days.”

Noah cited his desire to travel as his reason for leaving The Daily Show. Which is completely understandable, especially considering how cooped up and stagnant the COVID-19 pandemic has made everyone feel.

“After seven years, I feel like it’s time,” said Noah. “I spent two years in my apartment, not on the road, you know, stand up [comedy] was done. And when I got back out there again, I realised there’s another part of my life that I want to carry on exploring. I miss learning other languages, I miss going to other countries and putting on shows. I miss just being everywhere, doing everything.”

No word yet on who might be replacing him.
