Wheel Of Time Season 3 Renewed At Prime Video | Screen Rant

Prime Video has announced that they will be renewing their hit fantasy series The Wheel of Time for season 3. The Wheel of Time is based on the series of fantasy novels of the same name by prolific author Robert Jordan. The first novel, which was adapted into season 1 of the series, follows Moiraine, a member of a group of women imbued with magical power known as the Aes Sedai. She has gathered a group of people, believing that one of them is the Dragon Reborn, a mythical figure whose reincarnated form is destined to either destroy the world or rescue it from ruin. The series stars Rosamund Pike as Moiraine alongside Madeleine Madden, Josha Stradowski, Marcus Rutherford, Zoë Robins, Barney Harris, and Daniel Henney.

Season 1 of the series premiered on Prime Video on November 19, 2021, with its first three episodes. In that first week, it proved to be the most-watched series premiere on the streaming platform in 2021, as well as hitting #1 on Nielsen’s overall streaming ratings. Prime Video could clearly sense that this unmitigated success was on the horizon because, before the season even premiered, they had renewed The Wheel of Time for season 2.

Today at Comic-Con San Diego 2022, Prime Video held a panel for their animated digital series The Wheel of Time: Origins. However, they had a huge surprise in store for fans of the live-action branch of the series. Not only did they share a behind-the-scenes sizzle reel showing how production is coming along on season 2, they announced that the show is officially being renewed for season 3. This will mark the second time that the show was renewed before the previous season even premiered.

Plot details for season 3 are obviously not being discussed at the moment, considering the fact that season 2 hasn’t even aired yet. However, the show’s executive producer and showrunner Rafe Judkins let it slip that the season will be adapting material from the Wheel of Time novel The Shadow Rising, which was published in 1992 and follows the events that take place after the Dragon Reborn claims the crystal sword Callandor. That book is the fourth in the series, so it’s possible that book 3, The Dragon Reborn, will be wholly or partially adapted over the course of season 2.

At this time it is unknown what the production schedule will look like for season 3. However, considering the fact that production concluded on The Wheel of Time season 2 in February of this year, it’s probable that they will begin shooting the new season by this fall. That will keep the series on track for releasing episodes yearly, despite the fact that it’s a massive and expensive production.
