In case you’re new here: Wordle was invented by engineer Josh Wardle as a gift for his puzzle-loving partner and went super-viral in late 2021. His original game was bought by the New York Times earlier this year in a spicy seven-figure deal.
What’s the best Wordle starter word?
Working that out definitively requires actual math, and we’re not here for math — but fortunately, other people have worked it out for us. There are loads of options.

Is the New York Times making Wordle harder now?
Nope, that’s your confirmation bias at work. It’s the same old Wordle, with some “harder” words given the boot. But you can always switch on Hard Mode, which means you can’t make any guesses that don’t have previously confirmed letters in them. Ooooh.

Why are there sometimes two different Wordle answers on the same day?
As we’ve covered before, this is down to some changes the New York Times has made to Wardle’s original word list to remove obscure, offensive, or confusing words.
