The Harry Potter series saw Harry learn countless spells invented by wizards in ancient history, but there were others that had been cooked up by the characters themselves. The magic of the wizarding world was something of a science. It came with rules and restrictions and was far more complicated than waving a magic wand and saying the right incantation. It took years of practice to master the wand movements and levels of focus necessary for different spells, but most wizards managed well enough. However, to create a spell of their own, a wizard had to be highly skilled.
