“Unlocking Resilience: Discover the Haunting Beauty of ‘Things Could Be Worse’ in Wanda Morrow Clevenger’s Poignant Poetry”

It plays with the notion of satisfaction and the allure of throwing our carefree outlook against a brick wall, just to witness the splash of what lies beneath. What would happen if we let our unbridled expectations collide with harsh truths? Join me in this exploration of emotion—the highs, the lows, and that elusive sweet spot of balance. I think on how
far is too far
how much
too much
at what point
is pinpointed
where the hogs
eat the cabbage
and
how satisfying
it would feel
to scoop up
all the things
could be worse

happy half-fulls
and hurl that
unfailing
optimism
at the closest
brick wall
to see it
flail the air
then splatter
drip and drain
to the ground
left empty
to evaporate
completely
between glass shards
to show
unequivocally
what worse
looks like
