“Where do you get your ideas?”

This is probably one of the most common questions authors are asked. It’s also a question my Imposter Syndrome poses when it tries to convince me my book is a fluke, and I’ll never be able to come up with another good one.

What I’ve come to realize is that my best books didn’t actually start with an idea. They started with a feeling.

Not a world. Not a theme. Not a formula. Not even a character.

A feeling.

From my experience, starting with a simple feeling leads to books that are more resonant and addictive, far easier to write, and, most importantly, set us authors apart from AI.

My Bizarre Chocolate Fever Dream

Last night I had a dream. It was bizarre stuff, straight out of science fiction. Probably the result of eating too many Andes Candies before bed.
