For all of Anakin Skywalker’s confidence in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, it still took Darth Vader 23 years to successfully take down Emperor Palpatine in the Star Wars continuity. Having been corrupted by Palpatine at the end of the Clone Wars, Anakin Skywalker was seduced to the dark side of the Force in the hopes of saving his wife Padmé from his visions of the future where she died. However, his claim to Padmé that he could overthrow the self-appointed Emperor didn’t happen for over two decades.
