CCC Unveils Game-Changing Funder Data Integration That Could Revolutionize Research Funding Insights
Copyright Clearance Center (CCC) has expanded its Ringgold Organizations service with more than 21,000 funder records, aiming to help scholarly publishers and other organisations better understand and manage research funding data.
The update introduces a unique and persistent Ringgold Funder ID, alongside funder hierarchies and additional metadata. CCC said the expanded dataset will allow users to standardise funder records, improve the accuracy of data used in publishing workflows and gain greater insight into changes across the research funding landscape.
Ringgold Organizations is a persistent identifier (PID) solution for organisational data used by 80 publishers, service providers and funders. Its database now contains more than 776,000 organisation records, each associated with a unique Ringgold ID.
According to CCC, the service uses structured organisational hierarchies and consortium associations to represent relationships between organisations across the scholarly communications ecosystem. The addition of funder information is intended to reduce the manual reconciliation of funding data while making it easier for publishers to analyse funding relationships and assess the potential impact of changes in funding.
“Ringgold Organizations has been expanded to help customers analyse the funding landscape with confidence and model the impact of funding changes,” said Emily Sheahan, Vice President and Managing Director, CCC. “It now provides standardised funder data that stakeholders can rely on. It reduces manual effort, improves the quality of funder data in publishing workflows, and helps produce reporting you can trust.”
CCC said the expanded data could also help organisations identify risks and potential opportunities arising from developments in the funding landscape.
Ringgold forms part of the CCC Scholarly Communications Suite, alongside RightsLink for Scientific Communications, OA Intelligence and RightsLink Author Services.
The suite is designed to support publishers in areas including data normalisation and disambiguation, deal modelling, management of article processing charges (APCs) and open-access agreements, and the development of new publishing models and portfolios.
