Discover the Fiery Truth Behind "I Am the Sun" — A Poem That Shatters Expectations by Zachary Koplan

Isn’t it fascinating how the mundane—breathing, breakfast habits, picky eating—can unravel into these oddly profound moments layered with humor and melancholy? One minute you’re snapping at someone for their breath, the next you’re musing over how money might just call the shots in your brother’s life. And yet, amidst this tangled dance of family quirks and existential dread, there’s a strangely sacred puddle—more revered than any tome—waiting quietly for the sun’s brutal light to spill over it. This snippet of poetic life plays with contradictions so effortlessly that it begs the question: Can we ever escape the small absurdities that stitch together our human experience? Or perhaps, they’re exactly what save us from falling completely apart. Dive into this piece that captures it all—bitterness, levity, and that slow, simmering hope. LEARN MORE.

“I will hang up on you if you keep breathing like that,”
I interrupted you, as you complained that
you can’t stop eating candy for breakfast and salad for dinner.
Other times, I wished that I believed in energy,
or felt sad because I know,
one day, people will look at my brother and say,
“His money makes decisions for him.”
But each dark day, one of my favorite puddles is refilled,
respectable as a new Bible,
waiting for the Sun to start bloodletting.
