Unlock the Secret Strategy That Turns November into Novel-Writing Gold

We’re getting close to November and, for the first time in over a decade, there won’t be a NaNoWriMo competition. The National Novel Writing Month died earlier this year due to AI and years of poorly managing a grooming scandal.

Despite the issues, it’s hard to debate NaNoWriMo’s success over the years. Hundreds of thousands of writers have used the community’s support to write 50,000+ words in just 30 days. Many of those drafts would incubate into full-fledged published books, which is pretty incredible.

While the nonprofit NaNo is dead, two companies are stepping in to provide options for writers who want accountability to write 50,000 words in November.

ProWritingAid, the editing tool company, is offering Novel November. What’s really cool about ProWritingAid’s Novel November is their focus on live sessions. They’ve lined up over 150 published authors to host live sessions throughout the month to answer questions, offer guidance, and provide encouragement to writers. That’s a pretty cool addition!

Reedsy, the writing tool and publishing formatter, is offering the Novel Sprint. Writers who write 50,000 words inside the Studio platform can win cash prizes and an introduction to a literary agent. Not a bad option for writers looking to break into the business. There are also plenty of live events scheduled from now through the end of November.

While I don’t love that a nonprofit died and two for-profit companies stepped in to fill the void, I do think these are both pretty cool options. One of the hardest things about writing is finding a tribe of people who offer encouragement, and both ProWritingAid and Reedsy are ready to make that happen.
