TV shows copying their own storylines may reflect bigger issues with the series. The showrunners might reuse old storylines because the show has just gone on for too long, or because a previous season or character was just too popular. As the audience grows bored, even some of the best TV shows of all time try the easy route of recapturing the interest in the story by returning to whatever made it popular in the beginning. Most of the time, it is obvious that this is what the shows are doing, and it comes across as forced.
