Drink of the Gods
Good bourbon (Four Roses),
Lemon juice,
One maraschino cherry, smashed
Creme de Cassis (1 teaspoon).
Studied psychology,
Went into marketing,
Then advertising.
That was my life in the novel
I meant to write in the first
full flush of joy
in being a poet, a boy
barely twenty years old,
tall, thin as a man who runs
and never stops, enjoying it, like Sisyphus.
