Adele’s teary reunion with her inspirational English teacher is a sweet, hilarious watch

An important figure from Adele’s past surprised her during her television concert An Audience With Adele on Sunday, moving the British singer to tears.

The heartfelt reunion was kicked off by actor Dame Emma Thompson in the audience, who asked Adele if there was any figure in her life that supported and inspired her when she was younger. This prompted the singer to recall Miss McDonald, an English teacher at Chestnut Grove Academy, who left when Adele was in Year 8.

“She got me really into literature,” said Adele. I’ve always been obsessed with English, and obviously now I write lyrics… She was so bloody cool. So engaging. She really made us care and we knew that she cared about us.”

Adele’s memories of Miss McDonald seemed very fond, with the singer remembering how she used to do street dance and wear gold bracelets.

“I don’t know, she was just bloody cool, and so relatable and likable that I really looked forward to my English lessons,” said Adele.

Then, of course, it was revealed that Miss McDonald was in fact in the audience, joining a surprised and emotional Adele on the stage to give her a hug.

“Oh my god, I’m so proud of you,” the former teacher said.

“You really did change my life,” Adele told her, holding back tears. “Oh, and now I’ve got to get my whole face [of make-up] re-done.”
