A post from voice actor Shawn Fonteno hints that GTA 5 protagonist Franklin could make another appearance, leading to major speculations on whether the character is returning for GTA Online or for the next installment in the series. Franklin made an appearance in GTA Online almost a decade after GTA 5 in the multiplayer sandbox’s newest content expansion The Contract. The expansion is considered to be the biggest post-launch update players have received and features new exclusive music from Dr. Dre, a new radio station, weapons, quality of life updates, and new missions to give insight into the return of Franklin Clinton and Lamar Davis.
Despite releasing nearly a decade ago, GTA 5‘s multiplayer mode continues to receive major updates and features. This has led to the continued growth of the title’s player base, which broke the player count record in 2020 and easily allowed the title to become Twitch’s most-watched game of 2021. Due to its continued financial success, GTA 5 is set to rerelease for a second time on current-gen consoles in March, almost a decade after its initial launch. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S players will be able to experience GTA 5 Expanded & Enhanced with improved visuals and gameplay enhancements, and many other new features that will keep the current-gen remaster distinct from the versions seen before.
In a new tease, it appears that GTA 5‘s Franklin could be making another appearance very soon. Shared on Instagram (via Dexerto), voice actor Shawn Fonteno posted a brand-new player model of Franklin Clinton, alongside a claim that it is “Almost finished.” The model appears to be younger and much slimmer, similar to the original model used in GTA 5 compared to the character’s more recent appearance. The image quickly sparked speculation, with many players believing that the character could be returning in GTA 6 or for more missions in GTA Online, while some openly made fun of it for possibly being an NFT announcement in the future.
While the purpose of the model is currently unknown, a recent leak could reveal that it’s being used for the upcoming GTA 5 Expanded & Enhanced. Following the release of The Contract expansion, Dataminers discovered that the update contained numerous audio changes made to the base game, including Franklin sounds for movement, coughing, and breathing with the addition of a new mission passed theme. With the imminent release of the title, Rockstar Games could be making preparations for a new version of the young Franklin.
Franklin Clinton played a prominent role in GTA 5 as one of the three main protagonists alongside Micheal De Santa and Trevor Phillips. It’s unknown if the character is returning to GTA Online for more missions or if the model is a revamped version of the character for the upcoming Expanded & Enhanced version of GTA 5. Players can however look forward to hearing more about the character soon, as the current-gen release of the title is only a month away.
