Guardians of the Galaxy 3’s Adam Warlock Actor Addresses MCU Future

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3‘s Adam Warlock actor, Will Poulter, addresses the future for his character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After numerous Easter eggs teasing his eventual arrival, the supreme being was first referenced by name during Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2‘s post-credits scene. Ayesha (Elizabeth Debicki), leader of the Sovereign race, creates a new superweapon named “Adam” whom she plans to destroy the Guardians with. While the character is never actually seen, the scene serves to set up his appearance in the third movie.

Filming wrapped on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 earlier this month, and the film is scheduled to premiere on May 5, 2023. Chris Pratt returns to lead the cast once more as Peter Quill/Star-Lord alongside Zoe Saldaña as past Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax, Vin Diesel as Groot, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Karen Gillian as Nebula, and Pom Klementieff as Mantis. Poulter joined the cast of Guardians 3 as Adam Warlock in October 2021, though details about his role in the film remain elusive.

In a recent interview with The Playlist promoting his new movie The Score, Poulter remains tight-lipped about his character’s role in Guardians 3, though he does discuss Adam Warlock’s potential future in the MCU. Poulter honestly doesn’t know what the future holds and is still waiting to find out himself, though the actor says he would “love to go on a journey with that character,” and had plenty of praise for writer/director James Gunn. Read Poulter’s quote on his MCU future below:

I don’t know. I honestly don’t know what’s in store for me. I’m waiting to find out, and that’s the honest truth, but, needless to say, I’d love to sort of go on a journey with that character.

Poulter is already known for a wide range of roles in We’re the Millers, the Maze Runner series, The Revenant, and Midsommar. Now, he can add Adam Warlock, i.e., the perfect human being, to his resume. Though Adam was created by Ayesha for the purpose of destroying the Guardians, it’s unclear if he will actually fulfill that purpose in the third movie given the character’s mercurial nature in the comics. Poulter has also refused to say whether Adam will be a hero or a villain.

With so few details known about the MCU’s version of the character, it’s hard to speculate about Adam Warlock’s future in the franchise. With both Gunn and Bautista confirmed to be taking bows after the third installment, the very future of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy series is currently in question, so it’s no surprise that Adam Warlock’s is as well. With the character proving to be such a popular entity over the years, hopefully Poulter’s wish will come true, and he will be able to take Adam Warlock on an extended journey in the MCU starting with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
