2022 has proven to be a success for Pixar with new hit animated film releases like Turning Red making a splash. Friendship is a central aspect of Turning Red, as Mei Lee needs help and support from her group of friends as she goes through a difficult life change. This, of course, is not the first time Pixar has delivered viewers a heartwarming friendship.
In Ratatouille, Remy and Linguini’s friendship is unlike any other bond between a creature and a human. They each understand each other and communicate in a way that proves they have the best Disney friendship of all.
As one of the best food movies of all time, Ratatouille explores delicious food but it also focuses on a friendship between two unlikely beings. Remy and Linguini form a bond that is like no other, with Remy being a rat that cooks and Linguini being the human that comes to understand and accept Remy as a brilliant chef.
In the film, Linguini comes to apologize to Remy when he realizes that his newfound popularity has turned him into someone he’s not. The quote above is Linguini acknowledging that he would not be in the position he’s in and have the acceptance of the public if it weren’t for Remy in the first place.
Linguini is a character that understands who he is and his capabilities as a worker. He’s aware that he isn’t a brilliant chef and accepts this and is prepared to tell the truth of his deception on many occasions, with Remy stopping his best friend before he can do so.
When Linguini and the kitchen staff must prepare a dish to wow the toughest critic in Paris, things become overwhelming for Linguini. When he can’t cook any of his previous dishes or remember recipes, he comes clean with everyone and tells them that Remy is the true chef through the above quote, which demonstrates how much he appreciates and respects his unlikely friend.
In two of the saddest moments in Ratatouille, Linguini’s mother passes away and Remy is separated from his family, leaving the two alone in the world. When they meet, they eventually come to count on one another when it becomes clear that they will need each other to achieve their respective goals.
After getting into a fight, Linguini comes to realize that Remy is the only one that’s been there for him and truly believed that he could be something great. In apologizing for his part in the fight, Linguini states the quote above acknowledging that Remy’s always been there for him and he should have never doubted that.
Linguini believes in Remy like no one else ever has in the little chef’s life. He sees that Remy has a talent that can’t be denied and feels that his limitations as a rat shouldn’t dictate if he can be a chef or not.
In the film, Linguini makes this apparent through the quote above as he declares that Remy is the brilliant chef that can put Gusteaus back on the map in Paris. Even though the staff walks out on the two, Linguini expressing his ultimate trust in Remy is something only a true friend can do.
Hard work always pays off and when one is truly dedicated to their craft, it’s easy to accomplish so much. Remy is a rat unlike any other and can be considered one of the best fictional chefs in any movie with his dedication and passion for cooking being truly unmatched. Although Linguini is the only lucky one to see and understand this, they’re a team inside and outside the kitchen.
When Gusteaus finds itself the premier restaurant in Paris again, that means more customers and elite cuisine. The quote above emerges from Linguini and Remy working together as a team, providing the best customer experience, and being praised while doing so. After a long shift, Linguini praises Remy for his hard work and tells him to take a load off after such a successful night, like a true friend.
Sometimes, instant trust can occur through just one look. Although tasked with killing Remy by Skinner after being discovered in the kitchen, Linguini takes one look at Remy and understands that the little rat is just as scared as he is. Their ability to see through each other is astounding and aids them in their budding friendship.
This quote is a result of Linguini deciding to free Remy from the jar with the understanding that they will work together to prove Skinner wrong and cook at Gusteaus. They come to an understanding that night that they can only count on each other, planting a friendship that blossoms over the course of the film.
The story of two friends with no family who come to lean on each other in their times of need and helplessness makes Ratatouille one of Pixar’s best films to date. Remy and Linguini are both essentially alone in the world when they meet, however, their meeting gives way to them finding a place where they belong, together.
When Linguini and Remy must first figure out a way to work together without being found out, they run into a lot of obstacles. These obstacles make the task at hand seem impossible, however, Linguini expresses that they must fully work together and accept the other’s help to truly succeed in their goal, which they ultimately do, proving how strong their friendship truly is.
One should never offer up their home and possessions to a stranger so freely, especially to a rat. However, this is exactly what Linguini does when he brings Remy home with him on the first night of their meeting.
The quote above is a testament to not only the friendship and trust between Remy and Linguini from the beginning but also to Linguini’s character. Many would say that it’s naivete, however, some viewers will see this as a humane gesture from a caring individual.
In the first official meeting of Remy and Linguini in Ratatouille, viewers can see that the two have a special bond from the beginning. Linguini is the first human to understand and appreciate Remy as a chef and Remy is the first to trust and believe that Linguini could achieve something more for himself. They truly became one entity in the kitchen, making their friendship the most favorite human/creature movie friendships to come from Pixar.
After Remy discovers that he can control Linguini’s movements by just tugging at his hair, they both devise a plan to deceive Skinner and allow Remy to cook. The quote above acknowledges the true friendship that the two begin to form early on that allowed them to know what the other was thinking just from a look.
