The recent release of Sims 4‘s Little Campers Kit has disappointed players who were expecting much more in terms of interactivity. Camping DLC for The Sims 4 became available to download on May 26, providing users with new ways to partake in “creative family fun.” Notably, the new content – priced at $4.99 – consists of backyard camping gear such as a DIY blanket fort, outdoor projector, marshmallow roasting tools, and a cardboard box capable of transforming into anything a child’s creative mind can imagine.
Sims 4’s Little Campers Kit launched alongside the Moonlight Chic Kit, another DLC release bearing a $5 price tag. Inspired by Parisian designer Paola Locatelli, Moonlight Chic borrows heavily from modern Parisian style to allow players to doll up their Sims in everything from slinky dresses and flowing shirts to trendy jackets and sneakers. This should especially work wonders for Sims looking to spend the summer searching for that romantic spark with a special someone. But not all of The Sims 4’s latest content additions have been well-received by users.
Some Sims 4 players have expressed disappointment in Electronic Arts’ rollout of the Little Campers Kit. Following the DLC’s release on digital storefronts, Comrad1984 explained the bulk of their concerns in a Reddit post outlining many of the Kit’s limitations. For example, one of the backyard additions includes a large rug that Sims can’t relax on or interact with in any meaningful way. New pillows similarly lack ways for Sims to engage. Unfortunately, the same holds true for the blanket fort and s’mores. And the supposedly transforming cardboard box serves as little more than yet another “drawing/activity table,” according to Comrad1984. A different Redditor, bealize, joked that they felt like a clown for thinking the Little Campers Kit would feature “new kinds of toys.”
In essence, Little Campers represents another Sims 4 decor kit, complete with the backyard aesthetic but minus the attention to detail necessary for actual backyard fun. While many a player seems surprised by the dearth of interactive objects, others argue that Sims faithful should come to expect the bare minimum with regards to the gameplay kits.
Though the previously teased Sims 4 Kits launched on PC and consoles this week, players still have fresh content to look forward to in the weeks ahead. Most notably, an all-new game pack known as Go Wild should become available in June. Details remain scant at present, yet the assumption is that Go Wild will introduce werewolves to the world of Sims.
