The Surprising Decision That Transformed My Journey as an Author – Inside Chris Emery’s Choice of a Publishing Partner
Understanding the Reality
One additional reality also weighed heavily on my decision. Even if I had secured an agent and signed a traditional publishing contract, my work still would not have been finished. After developmental editing, copyediting, cover design, catalog placement, sales meetings, printing schedules, and marketing preparation, the typical publication timeline is another 12 to 18 months before a book reaches readers.
For some authors, that timeline is reasonable. For me, it isn’t.
EDITOR’S NOTE: BookLocker usually gets a book to market within one month.
