EW: In the first part of the book, my head swirled with anxiety, “reckoning” alongside you with some of the biggest questions of modern-day life—how we can situate ourselves healthfully amidst daily horrors of natural disaster and human cruelty, (women especially) giving until we are “engulfed” within a capitalistic society that normalizes excessive consumption and transactional (health)care, and struggling with the limits of our empathy. When you’re working on a book that is tackling such potentially overwhelming (not to mention depressing) subject matter, how do you tend to yourself?
