Zach Galifanakis & Elizabeth Banks To Star In Beanie Baby Movie

Zach Galifanakis and Elizabeth Banks are among the announced cast of Apple’s new movie, The Beanie Bubble, based on the popular Beanie Baby trend. The Beanie Baby boom of the 1990s saw Ty Warner’s plush bears fly off the shelves, with collectors clamouring for the rarest and most valuable of the thousands of different toys. Even today, some Beanie Babies sell online for thousands of dollars at a time.

According to THR, the story of the man behind the toy craze is now getting the movie treatment courtesy of Apple. Galifanakis and Banks have officially been cast in the project alongside Succession’s Golden Globe-winning actress Sarah Snook. The film, titled The Beanie Bubble, will chronicle the crazy financial boom surrounding the toy trend in the 90s. Based on a book by Zac Bissonette, “The Great Beanie Baby Bubble: Mass Delusion and the Dark Side of Cute,” the biographical film has been written by SNL’s Kristin Gore. Gore will also direct the film alongside her husband Damian Kulash, the lead singer of band OK Go.

Not much else is known about the upcoming film, but its stacked cast of comedic and acting talent has huge promise. With a plot centering on the absurdity of the real-life trend and the relationships behind Ty Warner’s success, The Beanie Bubble is set to be an intriguing look into one of the most unusual financial successes of the 20th century. Galifianakis serves as an executive producer on the film, which is also being produced by Ron Howard’s Imagine Entertainment and Apple films. A release date for The Beanie Bubble is yet to be confirmed, but the so-far confirmed cast and crew bode well for this iconic business’ onscreen story.
