Zendaya’s Madame Tussauds Wax Figure Reactions Divide Fans

Upon the unveiling of Madame Tussauds new Zendaya wax figure, fans have taken to the internet to share their mixed reactions. Zendaya got her start on the Disney channel in sitcom Shake It Up, but has since become best known for starring as MJ in the MCU’s Spider-Man trilogy, alongside Tom Holland and Jacob Batalon. The actor is also known for her roles in Dune, The Greatest Showman, and Space Jam: A New Legacy. She also currently stars as Rue Bennett in HBO’s Euphoria, a role that has garnered her a Primetime Emmy Award.

Since the recent release of Spider-Man: No Way Home and Euphoria season 2, Zendaya’s stardom has been on the rise. In addition to her acting career, she is also deeply involved in the fashion industry, serving as brand-ambassador for companies such as Tommy Hilfiger and even launching her own clothing line, Daya. The actor never ceases to dazzle with her unique and elegant outfits at each red carpet event, and has built a reputation as a young fashion icon. All told, Zendaya’s impressive acting range, fashion business ventures, and high profile relationship with Spider-Man co-star Holland have made her a prominent figure in Hollywood in recent months, earning the actor/model her very own figure at the famous Madame Tussauds Wax Museum.

Upon Madame Tussauds unveiling of Zendaya’s wax figure, however, fans took to the internet to share their mixed reactions. The museum, located in London but having multiple sites globally, displays wax replicas of historical figures, as well contemporary stars from TV and film. Some users argued that Zendaya’s wax figure looked just like the actor, or as close to her as a wax figure could be expected to look. However, others claimed it looked more like Kylie Jenner, and that the figure missed Zendaya’s youthfulness (she is 25), and features strangely pursed lips. Check out the wax figure and some of the reactions below:

While the reactions to Zendaya’s Madame Tussauds figure were quite mixed, many seemed to lean more towards the opinion that the wax version simply does not look enough like the actor. Many found fault with the particular expression the museum chose for the figure’s face, which appears to be an unimpressed smirk. It is this expression, as well as the figure’s hot pink outfit, that has drawn comparisons to Jenner. Others, however, disagreed and believed that the wax figure looked “almost exactly” like the Spider-Man: No Way Home star. Of course, how similar the wax figure is to the real Zendaya largely depends on the perspective of the specific individual. Given the limitations of using wax to identically replicate someone, the figure does appear very close to Zendaya’s likeness, and the workmanship is impressive to say the least. However, it is understandable that devoted fans wanted Zendaya’s “ethereal” essence to be captured in the figure, and may have found the wax version disappointing.

The strong reactions to Zendaya’s wax figure illustrate her popularity as an actor and fashion icon. The unveiling of her wax figure at Madame Tussauds is quite an honor in and of itself. The museum houses the likenesses of major stars, historical figures and franchise characters such as Beyoncé, Dwayne Johnson, Yoda, Queen Elizabeth II, and Brad Pitt, among many others. Now, Zendaya, too, has a place among them. Meanwhile, the divided reactions show how Zendaya has developed a devoted and loyal fanbase over the years. While the reactions sparked by the figure may seem insignificant to some, the intense discussion simply shows how much Zendaya‘s fans respect and admire her, and want to see her honored with an accurate depiction.
