Pitch Perfect Show Bringing Back Pitch Perfect 2 Movie Character

The Pitch Perfect TV show is bringing back a Pitch Perfect 2 character. Adam Devine is leading the spinoff show, once again portraying Bumper Allen, the frequent antagonist and gifted singer from the film series. The show is being executive produced by Pitch Perfect 2 director and star, Elizabeth Banks, with Megan Amram (Parks and Rec) serving as showrunner.

Pitch Perfect follows the collegiate a capella group, The Barden Bellas, who attempt to win Nationals. The film series was led by Anna Kendrick, Skylar Astin, Rebel Wilson, Devine, Anna Camp, and Brittany Snow, focusing on the sisterhood aspect for the all-girls team. The series spawned two sequels, where the Bellas continued to compete across a global stage, with the last film, 2017’s Pitch Perfect 3, being a commercial success, but a critical dud.

Now comes word that Flula Borg is joining Devine in the Pitch Perfect spinoff show (via Deadline), reprising his role as Pieter Krämer, the lead member of the German powerhouse group, Das Sound Machine. In the show, Krämer is now a “discredited German music manager” who invites Devine’s Bumper to Germany in order to manage him when one of his songs takes off in Berlin. The show has a straight-to-series order with Peacock and is expected to debut sometime in 2022.

Borg recently appeared in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad as Javelin and provides his voice for the HBO Max animated series, Aquaman: King of Atlantis as Mantis. He does a number of voices for various animated shows, including Teen Titans Go!, Centaurworld, and The Rookie. Borg is also well known as a YouTube personality and DJ (known simply as Flula). Devine has remained busy in his time since Pitch Perfect 2 as well as Borg, working on a number of different projects. He’s currently appearing on HBO Max’s The Righteous Gemstones and the animated adaptation of The Freak Brothers. He’ll next appear in the comedy, The Out-Law, with Pierce Brosnan and Nina Dobrev.

A Pitch Perfect TV show without the signature Barden Bellas is sure to ruffle some feathers for fans, but Devine has made a name for himself independently of the series since the last film, which could work in his favor for the show. Of course, there’s always the possibility that former stars, including former Bellas, could show up at some point, but as of now, only Devine and Borg are known to be returning for the show. It will be interesting to see how Pitch Perfect is spun into a weekly series, especially without the team a capella aspect of the show, so hopefully the showrunners have a good tune for this spinoff.
