Wasp Will Struggle With Quantum Realm In Ant-Man 3, Teases Star

After getting her mother back from the alternate dimension, Evangeline Lilly says Wasp will struggle with the Quantum Realm in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Plot details for the Marvel Cinematic Universe threequel are currently unknown, though the film is said to follow the titular heroes as well as Hank Pym and Janet van Dyne on an adventure through the Quantum Realm. The group are also expected to face off against Kang the Conqueror in his proper MCU debut after Jonathan Majors appeared as a variant of the iconic villain in Loki season 1.

Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly are returning to lead the cast of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania as the eponymous MCU heroes alongside the returns of Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer and the MCU debuts of Kathryn Newton as Scott’s daughter Cassie and Bill Murray as an undisclosed villain. Peyton Reed is also back in the director’s chair for the film, with a script penned by Emmy-winning Rick and Morty alum Jeff Loveness. There’s still just shy of a year remaining until Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania hits theaters, but one star is sharing some insight for the MCU threequel.

While speaking exclusively with Screen Rant at last week’s San Diego Comic-Con, Evangeline Lilly teased what’s to come from Wasp in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. In looking at the return of her mother from the alternate dimension, the star said that her character would struggle coming to terms with the Quantum Realm in the MCU threequel and it will serve as a major emotional arc for the Wasp. See what Lilly shared below:

“That is a significant story point for Hope in this film. It definitely brings up a lot of emotion for Hope, knowing that she had lost her mother for so long to this place, and that she really doesn’t know anything about it. It’s actually a beautiful question that drives to the heart of Hope’s struggle and vulnerability in the film.”

Since it was briefly explored in the original film, the Quantum Realm has become a major factor for both the Ant-Man movies and the MCU as a whole. It became a main plot point in Ant-Man and the Wasp as Scott, Hope and Hank raced to try and save Janet from having been trapped there for 30 years, while also being Scott’s saving grace in the film’s post-credits sequence as he survived Thanos’ devastating snap that wiped out half of existence. Scott would not only return from the Quantum Realm in Avengers: Endgame, but would find a way to use it with his fellow heroes to travel through time and reverse Thanos’ snap, bringing everyone back.

Given its growing importance in the franchise and it having given Michelle Pfeiffer’s Janet her abilities, it makes sense the Quantum Realm would continue to be a major factor in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania as well as Hope’s story. With the film expected to properly introduce Kang the Conqueror to the MCU, it seems likely that his time-traveling abilities will force the group to travel through the Quantum Realm as in Avengers: Endgame, thus putting Wasp in an emotionally complicated situation, as Lilly notes. Only time will tell what’s truly to come from the Quantum Realm’s return when Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania hits theaters on February 17, 2023.
