Scott: The annual Black List almost always has biopics of contemporary figures. There was one on Michael Jackson told through the perspective of his pet chimpanzee. One on Madonna. A script on Ronald Reagan. Were you aware of that trend when you latched onto the idea of doing a script on Richard Simmons?
Greg: I think being an emerging screenwriter you want to be a bit strategic as it relates to the Black List and look at the types of scripts that have made the list in the past. And biopics are consistently on there – there was Yoko Ono last year and all the ones you mentioned. So, if you can find a real life story that hasn’t been told yet, and you relate to it and think you can bring something to it, it might be a good idea to spec it out.
