Scott: As a writer, you’ve got to look for conflict. You mentioned the power play over who will control Riverdance, he loses control, so that’s some good external conflict.
Greg: That’s right. Lord of the Dance was the show he started after he left or was fired from Riverdance.
Scott: Did that suggest story structure right there? First part, Riverdance. Second part, Lord of the Dance?
Greg: Exactly. His firing is a clear midpoint, so the structure came together easily. It was a relief to find something that seemed so cut and dried structurally and was within a fairly brief timeframe. Because the tendency for biopics, at least for me, is to go cradle to grave, which sometimes works but more often doesn’t.
