Greg: Very much so. In Irish dance, if you’re 35 years old you may as well be a hundred. But he was just so good and so dedicated that he just willed himself to greatness.
Scott: Let’s talk about one other aspect of her personality. He’s an angry guy. Acting out, throwing things. Where do you think that anger came?
Greg: Maybe I should make a point of differentiating between the real Michael Flatley and Michael Flatley the character in the screenplay. There’s probably some overlap in the Venn diagram, but for our purposes, I’m just talking about the character. He’s been denied his dreams for so long. He knows he’s the best Irish dancer in the world, and when you’re the best in the world at something no one cares about what are you going to be other than pissed off? So, when he finally gets this opportunity to live his dream at this advanced age, he’s not going to let anyone mess it up for him. He’s paranoid, he’s protective, and he wants to be the best and see this through so he can be who his grandma always told him he was.
